It's been a couple of weeks...sorry. I've been encouraged by a friend to start a thread on sex--not just sex, but the topic of sex in churchland.
So...here's the beginning of the string:
Is it okay to discuss sex in church--why or why not? If you agree that's it okay, then just what should we be talking about? I mean it's a HUGE topic, and there are people on ALL sides of the fence (actually, there are about 5 or 6 sides to this fence!). You've got married people, single people, divorced people, homosexuals, asexuals...have I forgotten anyone?
Tell me what your thoughts arelll

I loved the topic from Sunday! I was really moved by the statistics that you had (the 80,000 images of sex for your children before the age of 18 and most of it from Hollywood!), and how only 2% got their views from their church. I think it would make a GREAT small group study. Including how to make it easy open communication with your kids. I think bringing it out into open communication about why it is good within the boundaries makes it a much more positive thing for married couples and for our children, instead of just the typical "Don't do it until your married!".
You forgot the transgendered.
I believe that church should be an open place where especially young people that are bobarded by sex everyday should be able to discuss it.
I don't believe it should be a punative discussion, just an open one.

Hey your Seinfeld episode was on the other night!
You're right...I did forget the transgendered. Thanks for speaking up. And yes I agree that of all the places that we should be able to openly discuss life issues, it should be in the church.
Question: I've never been involved in a 'punitive' discussion on sex...what would that look like?
Sex is very appropriate and needed as a topic in the church. If not there......where? TV? Movies? Romance novels? That's healthy?!!??!! Sex is God designed. God approved. Society is really dying for God's view but can't seem to find it.
So, I'll go to my very first question: What should the church do to make sure that we take responsibility for this? Do you have any specific ideas? Small group material? Weekend seminar? Song of Solomon club? Let me know what you think...
