Cataracts can be deadly

Proverbs 29:18 mentions that without a vision from God, people will die. It's what causes me to say that 'spiritual cataracts' can kill a church. Which is why I'm preaching for the next three weeks on the vision for faith venture church.

I mentioned to the group on Sunday that we already have a mission statement--so I'm going to use that to frame the teaching for the series. Our mission statement is:
Building community, changing lives, pursuing God.

You can probably guess what each week will focus on...except I'm beginning with pursuing God because that's the single most important thing that we can do as a Christian.

Second will be changing lives, which looks to be a pretty cool topic due to the fact that Jesus didn't come to just 'save our souls', but He came to reconcile us to God--the whole thing--not just our souls. This means that we (as we're to be about our Father's business) should be out trying to figure out just how to be used as God's hands and feet in a broken world.

Week three puts us on the topic of building community--something that God has placed squarely in the middle of my plate as the pastor of this church (destined to become a GREAT church). So I'm VERY excited about THAT week too.

I'm very excited to see just what God has for the future of FVC...I'll keep you posted.
